Theddlethorpe Beach is a glorious sandy beach just 39 miles away from The Lincoln House in Uphill Lincoln. Definitely one for dog walkers and nature lovers, this superb unspoilt landscape is designated a National Nature Reserve and will give you miles of scenery, fresh air, exercise and wildlife. Your dog will love you for taking him here.
On the day that I took Mr Darcy, my huge athletic labrador, there was a rolling sea mist and a warm sea breeze. We shared the massive wide expanse of sandy beach with giant seagulls - not another person in sight on this warm September morning. It took a while to walk down to the sea edge, wading a few times through salty streams full of crabs, shells and tiddlers, but we were rewarded with a softly rolling surf which Darcy jumped around in with great relish. Armed with his favourite toy - a ball launcher - I felt like a big kid again as I played with my dog in what seemed like the best playground in the world. We both ended up soaked, windswept and covered in sand. And no-one around to tell us off!
Dogs are welcome all year round at Theddlethorpe - and also at Huttoft Beach, a few miles South along the coast near Mablethorpe. There are no fancy facilities so you will have to take your own supplies but if, like me, you are a fan of unfettered walks and solitary nature-gazing - this is heaven.
Driving from The Lincoln House to Theddlethorpe could not be easier. Take the Wragby Road, heading for Louth and Mablethorpe and turn off at signs to Theddlethorpe. Keep your eyes peeled for signs to the sea road. Park up. Enjoy!
